(i) Quadratic formula.

(ii) $\sum_{k=1}^n (a_kx+b_k)^2 \ge 0$ and hence $\sum_{k=1}^n (a_kx+b_k)^2$ has at most one root given that $a_k \neq 0$ for at least one $k \in \{1, ..., n\}$ .
