Cambridge Maths School – more than excellent results

Cambridge Maths School is academically ambitious. Our students love mathematics, enjoy challenge and want to learn alongside other young people who share that curiosity.

  • They achieve exceptional results.
  • But the CMS experience is about more than grades.

Students leave us as stronger mathematicians, independent thinkers and confident young adults ready for ambitious next steps.

Results

53% A*  |  81% A*–A  |  97% A*–B

The Class of 2026 achieved another exceptional set of A-level results, with 53% of grades awarded A*, 81% at A* to A and 97% at A* to B.

These outcomes build on the success of our first graduating cohort in 2025. That cohort achieved an average grade of A+ and a progress score of +0.65, placing Cambridge Maths School among the ten highest-performing sixth forms nationally.

These results reflect hard work, expert teaching and a culture where students are expected to think deeply, ask difficult questions and enjoy being challenged.

Ofsted: Exceptional

Cambridge Maths School received the highest judgement of Exceptional in its first full Ofsted inspection in 2026.

During its first full inspection in 2026, Ofsted highlighted numerous strengths of the school, describing:

“Leaders and staff have nurtured a deeply inclusive culture”

“Practice that is among the very best nationally”

“Students enjoy the constant debate and discussion in lessons”

“Staff ensure that they weave mathematics through every element of the curriculum.”

“…designed to develop students’ problem-solving skills and to foster their curiosity.”

Ofsted recognised exceptional achievement and teaching alongside the wider experience students receive at CMS. Students make strong progress, develop advanced mathematical and problem-solving skills and benefit from research, university-level learning, external mentors, careers education and oracy.

That combination is important to us. We want students to achieve highly and leave CMS ready to make a significant contribution to the future of STEM.

Where next?

Excellent results open doors. Our role is to help students decide which door is right for them.

University is not the only measure of success. Students are supported to explore degree apprenticeships and other competitive routes and to make informed decisions about their own future.

CMS students progress to some of the UK’s leading universities and highly competitive courses.

Top university destinations for CMS students in 2026 included:

·         University of Warwick

·         University of Cambridge

·         University of Oxford

·         Imperial College London

·         University of Bath

·         University of Manchester

Students have progressed to study Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, Natural Sciences, Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Medicine, Economics and other subjects.

More than excellent results. Ambitious destinations and the skills to succeed when they get there.

Competitions, research and big moments

Some of the best CMS achievements happen away from an exam desk.

Students take part in mathematical and scientific competitions, Olympiads, research, the Cipher Challenge, data science, AI and robotics opportunities. They work individually and in teams, represent CMS and test themselves against unfamiliar problems.

Through the CMS Research project and wider research opportunities, students also learn to investigate ideas independently, manage longer projects and communicate complex thinking.

These achievements include medals, national recognition, team successes, research projects, conferences, talks, visits and the many unexpected accomplishments that make students proud of their time at CMS.
