(i) Quadratic formula.

(ii) \sum_{k=1}^n (a_kx+b_k)^2 \ge 0 and hence \sum_{k=1}^n (a_kx+b_k)^2 has at most one root given that a_k \neq 0 for at least one k \in \{1, ..., n\}.
